Focus
Fundamentals and Form
We continue to reinforce fundamentals of passing and usage of space now adding contact in the form of tackling, rucking, line outs and scrums. These new set pieces are where Form is a key factor in both game strategy and safety. This is where Student Athletes grow more excited about the game of Rugby.
The competitive season completes with state championship playoffs. The skills learned here continue to grow student athletes understanding, expertise, and love for the game and prepares them for Highschool Rugby.

Head Coach
Lance Henwood
Like most Kiwis, Lance loved rugby and began playing as a young boy, then through High School and onto club rugby. After moving to the states for business purposes, Lance landed in Brush Prairie and has continued playing with senior club teams, including travel tours to international destinations.
In 2013, a chance encounter with John Fletcher resulted in his introduction to the local youth program where he saw a club that had done it right in keeping the spirit, comradery, and inclusion that rugby meant to him growing up.
Lance began coaching alongside Brad Batten in 2014 as his kids began to play, in 2015 established the 1st middle school tackle division for girls and 2019 formed Chinook Rugby Club. He has been a key figure in supporting and maintaining the rugby program for our club and successfully encouraged others to certify as coaches and referees. He is a USA Rugby Certified Coach at all levels of the game, World Rugby Certified Referee and Certified Match Official Coach.
Lance’s coaching has always been about having fun at practice and on game days. This approach has produced many State Champion and runner-up titles through the years at all grades. He carries this philosophy of fun into the local schools as well with introduction to rugby in school PE programs.
